A chemist practices ceramic experiments at studio #8 on Enchanted Forest Road. Forest Ceramics is the ‘laboratory’ of Sean Forest Roberts, a fresh face on the studio tour who has set up in a corner of West Beach more well-known as Trudy Erwin’s Right Place Pottery by generations of islanders and summer regulars.
Trained as a chemist and practiced as a ceramic artist, I treat my studio as an experimental laboratory and playground. My artistic practice is a fusion of playful innovation and technical skill.”
Visit this studio to hear Sean explain slip casting and how he swirls graceful ribbons of liquid clay to create his distinctive marbled vessels.
I am constantly learning and developing new processes through experimentation with my ceramic materials. My current porcelain series is a result of explorations into the mixing and swirling of colored liquid clays”.
Having recently completed a successful Kickstarter campaign, Sean is in production mode. Look out for him at the Orcas Farmers’ Market on Saturdays in summer and see his fast evolving body of work at forestceramic.com and on Instagram.
